AAA to Offer Summer Teen Driver Education in Dunkirk
Buffalo, NY, June 12, 2008 --According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens, claiming more than 6,000 15- to 20-year-olds each year. Many of these deadly crashes are due to immaturity and lack of driving experience and safety knowledge, factors that can be addressed by formal driver education.

"Proper training for novice drivers is crucial for the development of safe, low-risk driving habits," said Tom Chestnut, President/CEO of AAA Western and Central New York. "Such training benefits not only the new driver, but every driver who shares the road."

AAA Western and Central New York is pleased to have contracted with Dunkirk High School to offer driver education to all novice drivers in the area. Featuring AAA's innovative driver curriculum, Licensed to Learn, teens are provided with up-to-date instruction and video technology in the classroom that coincides with in-car driving lessons to reinforce all the educational objectives of the program. Students gain a sense of real world driving situations in a low risk setting.

"We're delighted to be offering our Licensed to Learn driver education program to students in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area," said Mike Formanowicz, Manager of Driver Programs for AAA. "We understand the challenges teen drivers face so we're pleased to be bringing such a valuable program to the area."

Driver Education classes will be held at Dunkirk High School Mondays through Fridays beginning on Monday, August 4th, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with driving times available before and after each class. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, June 25th.
