Travel Consultants' Favorite Islands
We asked our Hawaii experts what was their favorite Hawaiian island, and why. Here's what they had to say.
- I love them all for different reasons. Oahu for its history and culture; Maui for its lush tropical feel and relaxing atmosphere; the Big Island for its diversity and natural wonders.
- Maui was my favorite because of its beautiful beaches and wide variety of things to do.
- Maui is the most beautiful island. It is a good representation of everything you think about when you think of Hawaii.
- My favorite is the Big Island of Hawaii because it is do diverse -- lush on one side, arid on the other. There is so much to see and do there, from coffee and macadamia nut plantations to the country's largest cattle ranch. From amazing star-gazing to Volcanoes National Park, and so much more. While it's not overly developed, there are quaint towns to explore, nice beaches, and lovely restaurants.
- The Big Island is my favorite for the natural diversity -- fields of black lava (like being on a different planet), wonderful beaches, rainforests, deserts, the active volcano, and beautiful black and green sand beaches.
- While I like them all for different reasons, I think the true Hawaii is best found on Kauai. It's the most natural of all the islands and the most true to what Hawaii really is. I like the history and commercialism of Oahu/Honolulu, but when you travel to the other islands you see a totally different side of Hawaii.
- The Big Island of Hawaii is great -- the volcanic side of the island, Hilo, is very lush and tropical with rain forests and the nature of Volcano's National Park. The other side, Kona, is really nice and unique as it looks like you are on the moon with very little vegetation and a lot of black lava rock.
- Maui is really beautiful -- full of vegetation with lush gardens, beautiful flowers, and really nice beaches both on the Kaanapali side as well as the Wailea side.
