Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park features real and imaginary animals as well as attractions and live shows.
Entering through The Oasis, a lush area of streams, gardens and waterfalls, visitors can go back in time to encounter dinosaurs, take an African safari amid free-roaming animals, be transported to southeast Asia and come face-to-face with Disney characters in entertaining settings.
At the center of the park on Discovery Island® is the majestic Tree of Life, which reaches 14 stories high and represents the diversity of animal life through intricate carvings of more than 300 animal life forms. Shown in a theater deep inside the Tree of Life, It's Tough to be a Bug!® is a comical, 3-D, special effects adventure offering a bug's-eye view of the world from the perspective of Flik, the hero of the Disney/Pixar movie “A Bug's Life.”
The land of Asia features Expedition Everest™, a high-speed train ride through the Himalayas. Beware, though—your route to Mount Everest crosses the forbidden realm of the legendary yeti, or, as he's also known, the abominable snowman. While you're in Asia, be sure to experience a soaking, white-water rafting adventure at Kali River Rapids®. The undersea world from the Disney/Pixar film “Finding Nemo” is re-created in the stage show Finding Nemo—The Musical, which features songs, theatrical puppetry, dancers, acrobats, special effects and animated backdrops.
Africa features a journey into one of the last wild sanctuaries of our planet. Beginning in the modern-day town of Harambe, the Kilimanjaro Safaris® expedition takes you on a chase for poachers through a 120-acre African savanna where hippos, zebras, gazelles, giraffes and elephants roam freely. After exiting their vehicle, visitors can traverse the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail® Walking Tour and observe a troop of gorillas interacting in this naturalistic habitat. Another option is the Wildlife Express Train; riders are transported to Rafiki's Planet Watch, an interactive experience where conservation efforts are explained and small animals can be seen and touched.
DinoLand U.S.A.®, devoted to the Age of Dinosaurs, is entered by walking under a 50-foot-tall brachiosaurus. The thrill ride DINOSAUR blasts back 65 million years to rescue a dinosaur from the edge of extinction as a deadly asteroid speeds toward Earth. Also in this land are Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama!, a roadside carnival featuring dinosaur-themed games and rides such as Primeval Whirl®, a time machine-themed coaster that spins riders back through the ages to encounter crazy prehistoric creatures, and TriceraTop Spin, which enables kids to ride flying dinosaurs, though cautions them to watch out for flying comets. The Boneyard is an open-air playground and dig site in which children can maneuver their way through a maze of dinosaur skeletons and help unearth the bones of a giant mammoth.
Costumed actors and storytellers, Disney characters, puppets, stage floats and live animals entertain in Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Elaborate puppets, giant animal stilt walkers and drummers join Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy during Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade. Festival of the Lion King at Camp Minnie-Mickey turns song, dance and characters from the popular movie into a Broadway-style extravaganza.
