2007 Chrysler Pacifica
(This review is representative
of model years 2005 - 2007)
Is it a wagon? No. A minivan? Definitely
not. An SUV? Try again. The
Chrysler Pacifica doesn't fit any of
these molds; rather it skillfully combines
elements of all three to create its own category.
The word "station wagon" conjures
up scary visions of wood-paneled land yachts
with unrestrained children piled into the "way
back." But, wagons of old (and
new) were popular for good reason: they
provide lots of cargo space for families on
the go, yet drive like a sedan rather than
a sport utility. With impeccable road
manners, excellent handling, and third row
seats that fold flat to leave room for kids
and their gear, Pacifica fits the bill perfectly.
And what about the minivan? The mere
word makes many car buyers cringe. The
Pacifica's innovative, attractive exterior
styling masks the interior's minivan-like
practicality. Three rows of seats can
accommodate six passengers, particularly children,
quite comfortably.
In 2006, all models accept the base came with
the more powerful 3.5-liter 250 horsepower
V-6. The base model gets the standard
200 horsepower 3.8-liter V-6. A four-speed
automatic transmission was the lone offering.
For 2007, Chrysler offers an all-new 4.0-liter
253 horsepower V-6 mated to a new six-speed
automatic transmission on its all-wheel drive
Touring and Limited models. Front-wheel
drive Pacificas continue to come with the 200-horsepower
V-6 engine and four-speed automatic transmission.
The only other changes to 2007 models are
larger exterior mirrors and glove box.
Pacifica has earned the highest 5-star safety
rating in all categories.
Not sure if you should buy a wagon, SUV or
minivan? If you don't need the
off-road capability of an SUV, the Pacifica
is a good compromise.
